the rangies should have three mounts fitted up between the rear speakers above the tailgate.....
the discos used to be drilled into the floor with a couple of plates under the floor.....
the kits for the discos were available from spares........there is a reinforcing strip under the floor......it can be seen from under the vehicle.....early discos im referring to....
defenders......?
well....they had roofracks......
i dont remember ever fitting anything to a defender for child restraints......

the adults are supported by the seatbelts....which have appropriate mounts.....
the baby seats need top support which have straps that need to be anchored somewhere....
in my opinion....its all a headache......my parents used to have the latest in child
restraints in their cars.....i was either in the bassinet on the back seat.....
or in my mothers ams whilst my father drove......
and if seatbelts were fitted to the back seat....then one may have been draped over
the top of the bassinet......
None of the fitting stations, including mobility engineering have much of an idea of the difference between one Defender and another, or exactly what a Defender is. If you think you've had trouble, search for child restraint through the forums and see how hard it is in a 130.

When I was a kid my parents went to a parachute maker and had him make up custom child restraints. There was an anchored net that went over the bassinet for the baby, and harnesses on sliding webbing for me.
And on to another off topic subject.
Anyone ever see the crash test dummy doco?
One subject it covered is how they come up with the information on how strong, etc. a crash test dummy should be.

Apparently whenever the RTA equivalent starts a program to do the research to make baby crash test dummies the tabloids come out and kill the project.

I've seen :wasntme: a carseat/bassinet mount be added to the seatbelt mounts on the defender before. Seatbelt goes straight from the back of their carseat to the floor and gets tightened.
Not sure if it's legal or anything else, but it sure as hell doesn't move!:angel:
I saw a Holden Zafira people mover the other day and the anchorage points for the child restraint for the middle row was on the floor. The straps went over the back seat and bolted to the floor immediately behind the seat, so as not to interfere with the back row.
How can this be okay in a production car, but not okay to have them on the floor as a retrofit?
I'm just adding to the confusion.
In SA our laws are a little easier on this but I used to sell vehicles and did some research on this for a few people.
Be very aware of just buying the Safe n sound (or similar) mounting plate and bolt. If the child seat sits lower than the height of the backrest. The problem is the top of the seat was never designed for this. In an impact the strap can "bite" in to the top of the seat And allow the seat to move. Try pulling on the seat when it is tight and watch it sink in to the padding.
Apart from that it shouldn't be much of an issue to get certified as they meet the Australian standard for ADR compliance. (Anyone had a look at how pathetic the reinforcing is around factory anchorage points!!!!)
The aftermarket reinforcing "washer/Plate" is much bigger and thicker.

I'm in Brisbane and just got a quote for a crab bar for my Defender for $220 installed and certified for a baby seat. They seemed to have done quite a few before. the bar by itself was going to be $130, maybe you could get one posted to you.
