Give it a filter and change of fluid if you want to run it a while longer and put it on light duties till your ready to rebuild. ( $3k-$5k depending if you take the car in or just the trans and converter)
Thanks for the info! Well, since I'm locked down I'm not going anywhere for a while so I might as well get it done sooner rather than later. But by trusted LR Mechanic is also outside of my 5km. Ah well...

    Update

I took my Disco to J Pringle Automotive in West Melbourne and they checked everything over. The torque converter was shot and pump wasn't working well.

They overhauled the gearbox (which was apparently in pretty good nick to no major work required there) and reconditioned the torque converter and pump.

It cost $3.5k (ouch!) but this is much less than it would have been if I'd have left it to fail completely at a later date.

There is no hesitation or delay when I put my foot down now and my trusty Disco drives so much more nicely. It was surprising just how bad things were and how they were really noticed as they'd crept in slowly.
