Look at a prop driven Aircraft during take off on a wet day. You will actually see the vortex (vortesies),behind the wing. (best one is the C130 Hercules), Lots of power mind you! A Hiclone could never do that. :DQuote:

Along with the hiclones, I hade the air intake line from the snorkle to the air-box enlarged and also had a new pipe made to go from the turbo to the intercooler. (I posted a thread a year or 2 ago about it)
Basically at the end of the day, alot more bottom end torque and better towing.
We also have a s2 disco td5, the td5 has more get-up and go, but the 130 (with the 300tdi) tows much better than it.

Thanks Andrew, more info on personal experience would be appreciated. I know HiClones are contentious products, and I've heard arguments for & against. I just want to know about personal / actual experience with them. If you like to post your results, that would be appreciated, or you can PM me if you don't want to enter into an online argument ;)

I have tried a Hiclone in a 3.9 92 Rangie and found no change. I still have it .
When you think about it, in a petrol engine it is placed before the throttle blade. Seeing the throttle blade is juuuust cracked most of the time, its hard to see how it possibly could create swirl in the inlet manifold. I reckon if you could get 8 little ones for the trumpets they would work, but at what cost? Most engines from the 60s on have offset inlet ports to encourage a swirl into the combustion chamber. The Rover V8 even has this feature.
However a diesel does not have a throttle so the swirl may be maintained to the ports depending on the engine. However resistance to air flow would increase ( because the cross section of the inlet pipe will diminish)so high end power may not be so good.
The theory is sound. The latest Mercedes V6 has little movable blades in the inlet manifold to create turbulence just before the ports. These only engage at light throttle.

All your changes appear to have been made together. Have you had it on a Dyno, then removed just the Hi Clones? It would be interesting to see what effect the Hi Clones actually make to your engine.

PS Not doubting your increase in power, but just what difference did the Hi Clones actually make.
I am a fan of the Hiclone. had one on my Nissan and it did make a difference. I was advised to put 4 into the Disco, 2 before and 2 after the turbo.
They offer a money back offer if not 100% satisfied so what do you have to lose by trying. Then you can let us know how you went.
I often wonder if all the people who say they tried them and that they did not make a difference if they were installed correctly, If fitted backwards they do not work.
Gee I reckon it would take quite a while to recoup the $720 (or probably more now) for 4 hiclones , in increased fuel economy.

I'm no expert so excuse me if I'm talking out of my @r$3 hear but would using hiclones after the turbo cause the same effect as a difuser in a wind tunnel (straightening out the air therefore the next hiclone would have the same effect on the air as the turbo?) I realise the air is compressed to a certain extent by the turbo so fitting a hiclone or two after would slow down the air and have an adverse effect on the compression of the air

Sorry all, but I have never done a dyno test on the 130 (with or without the hiclons).
I did have all of the changes made at the same time, so to be honest I don't know how much the hiclones themself are doing, but the whole package works.
After I had the work done, a friend (who has a 110 the same age as my 130) am I did a comparison and the difference is great.
Previously I was always under the impression thet the 130 needed a lower first gear in both high and low range (I did come from a 76 rangie before), but after the mods I don't believe it is needed anymore.
More than happy to give anyone a test drive if they are in the area!!
