    Disco Upgrades

I am new to disco's and diesel's having just bought a 98 tdi auto i am planning the accessories i want to fit. It doent have a snorkle but may in the future so how do i make room in the battery tray for a battery? the jack and that lame excuse for a wheel chock can live in the back somewhere but there is the inlet for the airbox ? Also looks like there is a bracket that holds the jack and it looks welded or spotted in. Also have a gme TX 3400 with remote head that i will have to fit somewhere, have seen the heads mounted overhead but where to put the main unit. Will also need an inexpensive mount for my pda for use with a bluetooth gps. Interested in any other simple mods to make my new truck better for camping etc.

    Thanks,
    Nick.

I bored a hole through the air box (gaurd side) and into the inner gaurd. I then used a piece of corrugated hose to connect the holes. (but I did not drive through deep water). A snorkel fitted may solve that problem. Block the inlet behind the battery.

I bought a suction mount for my PDA on ebay for about $130. it contains a GPS reciever and a speaker and plugs into the ciggie lighter socket so it recharges the pda as well. Works very well indeed and I reckon its fairly cheap. Pretty sure you'll still find them on ebay

When I put my snorkel (Safari)on it came with a cap to block the original air intake to the airbox. The snorkel intake feeds into the filter box from the side closest to the engine. This also allows you to utilise the 2nd battery space, once you have relocated the jack etc.

    Cheers

I haven't put a 2nd battery in it yet, thus the jack and chock is still in the original position. Can't remember if the holder is welded in or bolted, I'll have a look about mid week when the car returns, the wife and kids have taken the Disco to Sydney, so I'm left with the Toyo Camry..........
