    Flushing Intercoolers

What do you use and how do you flush your intercooler on a 300TDi?

you could fill it with diet coke.....then drop a couple of mentos in it......

or try some kind of solvent like kero......give it a good swirl around and drain....
it will only be oily deposits in there.....so the kero will desolve it.....
and it wont matter if there are a few drops left in the intercooler as it can be mixed with diesel......

having said this its best to leave it in the sun or somewhere warm to evaporate as much
of the residual kero as possible........you dont want to hydraulic lock the engine.....

The Haynes manual I think has a procedure. I'll drag it out if you want.

I did mine the other day for something to do. I just used some ULP washed it out then left it in the sun to dry out for a few hours, work4ed a treat.

    Flushing the Inercooler ??

This is gonna sound like a dumb question, but why would u want to?

It shouldn't be dirty. There is only going to be something in there if its got past the airfilter and the compressor or it there is an oil leak from your Turbocharger.

Or am I missing something here???

Have you ever read the servicing schedule?
It is in the service items list and its there for a reason.
Most people don't bother with correct servicing and It costs them $$$ if you have plenty don't worry. Your local mechanic will like you anyway.

    Hi DirtyDawg
I rinsed mine with petrol and left it in the sun.
    Gavo
They do fill with oil and will partially block.
The oil comes from breathers feeding into the intake system and can from turbo leaks as well

Ok, So I was missing something. I'd overlooked the crankcase breather upstream from the compressor. Interesting.
