Underbody transmission cooler

The ZF autotrans was rebuilt at 272,000kms.

I read a while ago that the D2 trans cooling works fine - will try and find the thread. But yes mud blocking the cooling and the crappy connections are weak points!

I have abandoned any thought of pursuing the underbody install of a transmission oil cooler in my D2. Whilst fine for a street or drag car there are just too many negative aspects for it on an off-roading 4WD vehicle. So I’ve purchased a PWR brand 21 row stacked plate & fin oil cooler that I’m planning to mount forward of the AC condenser and behind the grill.

Does that have proper pressure fittings such as multibarb or screw down etc? My experiences are that just slip on and a hose clamp fittingd blow apart for the D2 ATF coolers.

Yes it has ports that accept ‘proper’ pressure fittings. I’ll be using JIC or -8AN fittings.

After heading down more than one rabbit hole over the last few days, I'm pretty sure the OP pic is a defender with an LS and 6 speed auto installed, I was reading a massive thread on defendersource.com (something like 156 pages..) about LS swaps and the under body cooler came up towards the end, this was used by a guy that was basically just trail running and towing, no real mud etc.
