Diff/Gearbox/Transfer Case extended breathers - terminating outside the cab?

    Hi all

The common theme seems to be to terminate extended breakers under the bonnet via a snazzy looking breather head attached to the firewall.

I use a clear fuel filter on the end of the extended breathers with a home made bracket attached to the fire wall behind the pedal box on my Defender 130.

I was thinking of going higher and terminating the extended breathers at snorkel head/roof line height and since I have a 130 HCPU with a canopy on the back, I can mount the end of the breathers up high on the front wall of the canopy (ie between the canopy wall and the rear window).

The only criteria that I will need to deal with, is to stop rain/moisture entering the hose.

    Any other issues?

    Cheers

High is good, above reasonable is a waste.

You’ll kill electronics etc long before it (the water depth) becomes a problem.

If you plan to be sitting waist deep in the drivers seat in the water, then go higher Diff/Gearbox/Transfer Case extended breathers - terminating outside the cab?

Do you have a ROPS on the tray? If so, mount them up high then feed them into the ROPS hoop on the free end and breather from inside the pipe. It has sufficient volume to not cause an issue

Wasp nests could be an issue as well,if they terminate outside.

The D2 had them all run to high up under the bonnet with the tube just turned over pointing down.
I did some very deep water crossings and never had an issue, some were over the bonnet depth.

The D4 has fancy filters on the end of them, fitted by the manufacturer, but one wouldnt be game to take one of those through water much deeper than top of wheel height, even with a snorkle, there are too many ECU's under the bonnet.
