Milford fitting instructions for D1

I fitted mine on a DII Got the barrier for $100 then got the fitting kit from milford.

As you say sore knees ... and patience is really all it takes...

All up took me about 3 hours for all 4 mounts.

The forward floor mount is situated under the seat somewhere.

The instructions should show exactly where they should be.

The 50 cm extension screws to the existing top tab & extends forward from that.
The extensions have welded nuts fixed to them so you just put your screw in those. They come with screws.

I found Milford very helpful but tied up in tape when I wanted to fit my barrier in back of my Defender.

Backgrond:
I had mine fitted by the ARB gang in Dandenong
Instead of fitting it up behind the front seats to give maximum room, they fitted it with the standard rearward position which is fine, plus the OFFICIAL LOCATION for the forward position which is behind the folded rear seats, making the barrier sit about equally dividing the rear door opening.

This makes it impossible to enter the vehicle via these doors and at the same time the space over the folded seats is nigh on unusable.

I told H.O. of my dis-satifaction. They saw what I wanted but could not help me. The problem is that if the barrier was fitted up against the front seats, while the rear seats were in position, it would be possible to have passengers in the rear behind the barrier, which is A DEFINITE NO NO.

My solution is at a point in the future when I want to do a camper fitout, is to run some steel flats along the roofline from the rear mount, past the OFFICIAL front point to make a third point suitable for the location I desire.
here is a recess just infront of the grab handle into which I can locae a 10mm nut to use the standard fixing screw.

For the lower edge I will run a transverse member (38x25RHS?), along the top of the seat box base near the seat belt fixings. I will fix this in place with tabs that go down the rear face of the base. The barrier will fix to this using the expanding straps provided as usual, but set at a mininmum angle. This will still let the barrier move forward in the case of a collision, stopping the goods slowly. Of course by using it in this location, the rear seats are OUT OF THE VEHICLE. Space used for fitted storage.

For rear passengers, the storage comes out, the barrier moves back, the seats go in, and the new cross-rail stays being located just above shoe height.

I put all this to Milford and they could see nothing really wrong with the plan. It is the difficulty with making sure that users take the seats out when the barrier is right forward.

I don't have that problem with mine being a 3 door.

It's an option for more 'protected' space & imho should only be used as a temporary measure & then replaced (it ain't much of a job anyway) when the need is over.

No-one in their right mind would want to have passengers behind the screen, only goods.

I was thinking ...if you are going to leave your barrier in the front position all the time, and remove the rear seats altogether, ( as some do ) you could use the seat belt mounting bolts for the top mounting points.
Some new extension bars would need to be made but wouldn't be too much of a problem if you had the tools.
You could then make extension bars a bit longer both top and bottom so the cargo barrier sat directly behind the front seats.

both rear top mounts went in yesterday, and the test fit of the barrier showed it all to be on track.

CraigE.. you're right, the top (alpine) windows don't need to come out.

Rovers4 has suggested a solution that would suit me and that I'd like to try. (Thanx rovers4)
With this concept of extension staps, would anyone anticipate any potential safety problems with making longer straps with two forward mounting positions ???
1.) behind the folded rear seats.
2.) directly behind the front seats, with the rear seats removed.

No. 2.) position would also allow me to use the back doors for my dogs to get in and out when the bike carrier and trailer are hooked on making it impossible to use the rear door.

Why I need the space.
