For any one that uses reverse switch AMR3918

That is the reverse switch on an R380.

So I have owned my Defender for about 15 years odd and as we know there are some things you just get used to replacing on a regular basis.

Well I have the reverse switch on this list.
The latest one I fitted was this afternoon and the fuse went pop as soon as I put it in gear….
So I dug out rhe volt meter and measured away…
Turns out the reverse switch is working, BUT one side of the reverse switch has low resistance to the case of the switch. As it turns out it happened to be the side connected to 12v and it drew enough current to blow the fuse!

    Anyone seen this before?

    Anyone any ideas?

Wondering if I can put a relay in to make the low resistance not matter?

Would just go get another but am wondering if this could be the underlying cause of the last 4 or 5 I have replaced?

    Cheers

    James

Is it like a Series III switch? Plunger type thing with a threaded barrel, lock nut and 2 spade terminals? If so, it should not short through the body. Mine is wired live to the switch then out to the light. The earth is at the light… Both terminals are insulated from the body.

Hay Dave, it is a barrel thing with thread but has a lead with connector on the end. Probably all made in s a me place rhough.

Well, if the connector has two pins in it, no idea why it would go to earth from either. Methinks faulty switch!
If it has one pin in the connection then I guess it’s intended to go to earth, with the circuit “battery-fuse-light-switch-earth”…
