The pot is in the transfer case so wouldn’t have been touched when the gearbox was rebuilt. This is a known issue and when I had mine I was on the full fat rr forum and there was a guy looking at having some pots made as replacements but not sure what eventuated. Maybe ask the question over there and see if anything surfaces about that. Not sure of any tips or tricks other than replacement - you could always pull it apart and try and clean it with some contact cleaner - from memory the assembly is just screwed to the side of the transfer case.
