    Tdi injector washers in td5?

Hi I’m having a lot of trouble getting one genuine td5 washer on an injector. It gets 90% of the way down the nozzle then gets stuck because of some minuscule obstruction that won’t clean off. As tdi washers have a larger diameter hole then compress down, they will fit with no issues.
I’ve also read (TD5 Injector Seals - Defender Forum (1983 - 2016) - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum ) that they can be used in lieu of td5 washers so will be trying one on this injector.

Has anyone previously had success with tdi washers in a td5? From a trial fit they seem to seal nicely once compressed.

I would have thought if they work why would lr have changed the washers in the first place?

    Cheers

    Patrick

It sounds to me that the shaft and seat are not clean.
What can look like metal is actually very hard carbon and needs to be scraped off.
There is a raised ring on the flat surface of the injector which is the actual sealing seat. If you cannot see that, get a dental pick or similar implement and VERY carefully scrape the shaft and seat so that you can see the sealing ring and also remove any rock hard carbon from the protruding nozzle.
Sorry of telling grandma to suck eggs.

Thanks, yeah I was abit shocked when I realised the base of the nozzle was only a level surface from all the built up carbon.
I’ve only been cleaning with carby cleaner and paper towels/scotchbrite for the stubborn bits. I understand the tip can be damaged, is it ok to be more aggressive with the sides of the nozzle?
