I assume yours is a 9.35:1 (2001 onward?) Motronic as a 8.13:1 would hardly ping on 91RON.
As I said earlier, The ECU advances the timing to the maximum , and learns as it goes. So it will advance until it pings then back off a little. It has a very sophisticated map in the ECU
Seasonal or quality changes in fuel will mean that it HAS to ping at some stage. Even on 98 RON it may ping occasionally.
It has knock sensors on both banks so there is theoretically no possibility that one bank may regularly ping as long as no errors are logged by the ECU.
If it is only an occasional ping at light throtle it surely will not do any harm.
Again ,I would drive it and just see if it goes OK or gets worse.

yep, its a 2003. I've only ever used 98 RON in it. It seems to ping reularly and given I am using 98 juice I have this concern. I have also run 2 batches of fuel to make sure it wasn't a fuel issue but the pinging is still there. Admittedly thinking aboutit the pinging seems to have improved this weekend over last weekend but I have only used it once on a short trip. Perhaps I should take it for a run up the mountains tomorrow and see how it performs.

Right that's it! Who can do an insurance job on my car? It is continually pinging now and I can't seem to get the dealers interest in sorting it out.

Poor ****** I feel for you mate.. but Gods having a slap at ya for going from a 130 to a Disco...;)
All jokes aside have you taken it to an Independent Landrover specialist to be assessed.. Keep the reciept if you pay for the inspection and go to the dealer with the said report.. If they don't pay your costs just take it to small claims Tribunal or petty sessions court My old man did that and won easily.
I hope for your sake that on such a new car this isn't the tip of the Iceburg or a "friday Car"

I give up. I fear this is the last straw and my last Land Rover experience................

Still venting!! Now I have abnormal fuel economy, almost getting what I would get out of half a tank from just a quarter!!! I would think it is running lean and that would cause the pinging? To get someone to fix it is now the problem.............
