What dye for setting up diff tooth pattern?

40 years ago we used 'Red Lead'. In recent years I have used bearing blue but found it unsatisfactory. What is used these days for visualising tooth contact when setting up a diff?

I had the same problem with Engineers Micrometer Blue, struggled to see the contact area.

There's a nice yellow alternative sold in the US but getting very expensive.

A couple of suggestions I found are zinc oxide cream, yellow oil based paint & white lithium grease. I haven't tried them but you need something oily that will wipe off the contact area.

As mentioned, I've found bearing blue to be unsatisfactory for this purpose. Might be worth trying some normal zinc cream.

Tried tracking down the part number and only found it overseas.

Yes seems very difficult to come by those products; Amazon lists the AC Delco stuff as 'professional use only, not for retail sale'; sounds like it's probably no less toxic than the old red lead. I saw a youtube vid where a bloke uses some zinc cream and it appears to have the desirable thickness and visibility so I will start there. Will post the results. Might be a few weeks though. I've just ordered a torsen diff for the Jag as a present to myself, the installation might take a while to get to the top of my priority list.

For a colourant - You can buy small quantities of colored oxides from eBay for soap making and craft work.
