my car is eating my tires! arggh

    Hi all,
well went for my first weekend bash in my car and discovered I have a slight problemo...

My tires seem to be a tad too big for the car! I think they're 32's but I can't be sure. The car supposedly has a 2.5inch lift as well.

This is what I discovered when I returned home:

A large chunk is missing out of one of my tires and there are a few smaller cuts as well. So, how easy is it to cut gaurds? is it likely to be a DIY sort of operation or am I going to need some experienced hands? Perhaps a 2" body lift?

I like these flares (below) but I don't know where to find some. Can anyone tell me where to find some?

    cheers,
    Ben

I know the rear area often needs to be trimmed by an inch or so on the Disco1. A few regulars on here have done it so I'm sure one will be along shortly.

The front area looks the same as my RR. I've folded that edge in for clearance with my 7.50x16s. It looks like your tyres have just caught the lip so if it's folded over, they should clear.

Those flares are from Les Richmond Automotive.

    They'll fix your problem

Can you post a side view of your own Disco? Maybe your 2.5" lift has sagged?

There are several pages around containing instructions for cutting back the guards, here's one account:

    http://www.fag.hiof.no/~frodehaa/forandringer/245-75.htm

    ... and another:

    http://www.discoweb.org/trim/index.htm

.... and some comments from our own members:

    Good luck!

You will have to cut the rear of the rear guard no matter how much spring lift you have.

You can add a spacer between the mudflap bracket, but this exposes the guard edge and get damaged eventually anyway.

The rear door lip needs to be cut/bent to clear.

I have 33" tyres on my disco and only needed minor cutting to fit them. But i do have a 3 door.
I don't like flares as these just get smashed off unless you have large offset wheels to protect them.
