Be wary of fitting a 'longer' filter, I know of at least one engine seized when the diff punched a small hole in the oil filter just before a high speed run up the freeway.Quote:

I've heard of a couple of Discos with this happening with a Z9 filter. I believe a Defender has deeper chassis rails (Is this true ?) so the engine should sit slightly higher in the chassis and the diff will still kiss a Z9 length filter on extreme articulation/bump.
And FWIW, Coopers in the UK don't make the OE ERR3340 oil filter.
Delphi make it, and it's a pretty ingenious design. The element uses no end caps, the ends of each pleat are glued, it is a heavily pressed cellulose media and is embossed with dimples to keep the correct pleat spacing.
I have a few Beta Ratios (filtration efficiency #'s) of a few filters if anyone is interested, although I have a feeling I've posted them before.
