OK had the Novus windscreen guys out to look at the car.
The windscreen was not sealed in one corner (lower left of the car). This was part of the problem.
However we also found that most of the water was in fact coming in via the fire wall - where various wires had be put through grommets and the grommets where either (1) not there, (2) torn or (3) pushed in.
Here is what we found - water sits on the tray below the windscreen and in heavy rain not all of it drains down the two drain lines. It was flowing forward through holes on the font edge of the tray and then running down the fire wall EXACTLY above where grommets for wires go through. The worst leak on the drivers side was where a large rubber boot goes over a whole bunch of wires - this boot was pushed in an not sitting on its flange.
Have sealed all the fire wall holes with wires - this SHOULD fix the leaks. Will dry and test and post the results after the next large rain.

I resealed the windscreen in the Disco because it was running down from the top on the inside of the screen. Then I cleaned up the rust in the floor (both sides) and repaired it.
Last night it rained and the passenger had water in it.The driver's side which had been far worse had none!

So I had a look for LR TSBs and found there was one for leaks into the passenger foot well. Alas, my car had the fix already applied. So I got my wife to hose the screen whilst I looked under the dash (after opening the glovebox right out (thanks Langy for showing me that trick).
The blasted water was flowing out of the heater blower motor!
So I had a feel under the air intake cowl and thought "That's odd. Water can run straight down the screen into the heater air intake" (on the passenger side). Then it dawned on me. Who ever had last worked on the screen or air intake cowl had not placed the rubber lip at the lower edge of the screen OVER the cowl.
Not long after, Langy turned up so I compared my car with his and confirmed my suspicions. Then we set to and removed the plastic air intake cowl to check under there and clean out the leaves. I ran a bead of silicone rubber around the lip of the air intake and then we refitted all, taking care to get the the windscreen rubber lip over the cowl (and sealing it with Sikaflex as specified in the above referenced TSB.
Tomorrow we'll see if it's still dry.
