G'day mate,
I have a V8 D3 and had it for about 9 mths ago. Its done 30000k's and only problem so far was in the first couple of weeks with a faulty airbag which was replaced and that has been it. Not only have I been amazed and what it can do off road but many in the club as well. Example- Rover Park, going through what was rated an "extreme track" and then came to this very steep rocky climb. Now as I have 19's with standard road tyres, Xbox calls through on UHF to be careful in relation to the tyres I had. No probs the D3 just saunted up with ease. On a driver training day held by another club with Toyos and ****ans, same sort of deal, a few hyuck hyucks again, moreso with standard tyres. At the end of the day seeing what it climbed, went over, through etc, different change of tune. Going over one spot the toyo driving instructor himself said, "Geez mine couldnt have done that". Aside from really hardcore stuff there isnt many places I havent gone, up creek beds no problems, rocky tracks, water, mud you name it. Then as you hit the black top a dream to drive.
I guess find a car that at some point hasnt had glitches, one would be hard pushed. I love the V8 and it is reasonable at about 14l/100 atm. Just to get you over the edge have plonked in a few pics :D , click to enlarge

Hands down best vehicle I have ever owned :)

Anyone with the TDV6 had any oil leaks let? My TD5 did not get any oil leaks until about 60,000 km.
No leaks after 50,000km! So I guess I've got another 10k to find out!
I hope landrover got the oil leak thing sorted out within the design of theTDV6.
The motor was designed by ford/peugot and not by the english.
No offence intended to the englicsh members here, but anyone who's owned a british car or bike knows that they have a thing about building oil leaks INTO motors!;)
Hi again Dermie, My RR is a diesel and the D3 is a V6 petrol.
I like the extra grunt the petrol D3 has over the TDV6 D3 but the RR still has more grunt than either D3 and gets 9.1/100 on trips. The best the D3 gets is around 12/100 on a trip so if you have the extra $8k and you are planning to do a lot of driving, go for the diesel.
If the fuel prices had started to rise when I was buying the D3, I would have probably gone that way.
I don’t know how soon you want the D3 but I believe there is a twin turbo TDV6 D3 coming soon. Others may have more details there.
Don’t confuse the 2000 RR with the new Land Rovers as far as electronics go.
There were and are lots of problems with the pre Mk3 RR but the Mk3 had the fortunate advantage of getting BMW electronics instead of the Lucas crap.
the D3 goes even further in that it also has had some Ford input to push the BMW style electronics to even better performance.
I’ve had quite a few warranty problems with the RR but not one has been a direct cause of the electronics and in a number of cases, the electronics has warned of potential problems before they occurred and in my opinion, thats what modern automotive electronics should be capable of doing.
The D3 comes with a 3 year/100k warranty and for around $1,500 you can, at any time while the original warranty is valid, extend the warranty period for another 3 years/100k.
My D2 TD5 still has no leaks at 65,000...knock on wood :)Quote:

The greater fuel efficiency of the diesel certainly appeals, but the tarmac/offroad ratio of driving will probably be around 90/10 and probably the standard 20000kms a year and I don't own a boat or anything I'll be towing so I'm thinking the petrol V6 will probably suffice. Again happy to be talked into a diesel but probably leaning to the V6 petrol at this stage.
I'm yet to be convinced ford stuck the right petrol motor in,,
its a fair lump of car to shift.:o
