Where to go "Front End Alignment"?

well.....the land rover front end is so simple.....that a bit of string is all thats required......

unless ofcourse you want to do a thrust alignment......
this is where you set up the front wheels in line with the rear wheels....
to compensate for the diff not sitting at a perfect 90 degrees to the chassis.....or exactly in the centre......
which they never do....even from factory.......let alone after the rubber bushes start to flex and wear.......

and even if you do pay for an alignment......how do you know its getting done properly.....
unless you do it yourself......
and yes.....i am speaking from experience......i have seen too many shonks out there......
and i am forced to be one myself where i am working at the moment.....i dont see me lasting too long there.....
i simply cant work like that.....i have a conscience.....and i know what its like to be ripped off....
of dollars you dont have in the first place to begin with......yes.....this does happen....!!

I was a wheel aligner for ten years in Noosa QLD and now I'll still do my own. The boss here at Bob Jane T-marts will let me do it myself, and at the same time I have teach the aligner some new points. True thrust alignment is only possible on cars with front & rear adjustment. But on solid diff vehicles just pay for the standard alignment you can straighten the steering wheel yourself by adjusting the connecting rod, the one that goes on the angle up to your steering box, winding it in or out changes where your steering wheel sits you can drive a little bit(up & down your drive way) with it loose while adjusting to get it spot on. This will not effect your toe in/out.

Is that the technical term, 'thrust' alignment......
Sounds like something out of, well, this isn't the mud pit :twisted:

Anyway, that's how I set up my string line all those years ago when I last did my wheel alignment. Centred it off the chassis centreline initially, then trued it up off the rear hubs and went from there. The local mechanic ( a mate) has a laser aligner, but no one there knows how to use it properly (I've had to help a few times....) and I least know how to set up my string line ......:D
Used to have a digi camber guage too, unfortunately it died and can't be repaired....:mad:
