I got a new battery yesterday for the sIII started her up and endless clouds of blue white smoke coming from the exhaust. This smoke clears when it's under throttle. I guess it's burning oil but have been told it might be just stale fuel? I cannot see how.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I cannot afford to rebuild it and need it regoed before 30/9 to avoid a blueslip. Any chance of a pink slip with this amount of smoke is just a joke.

I used to do that in the old Hemi but I don't know a thing about diesels will it work?

What engine does it have in it and how long since its been run, If its a 4 or 6 Rover Motor and it hasnt been run for a while run it for a while and put some Penrite HPr 50 in it provided you are not in sub zero temps in the am you should be right.
If its a Holden its f**inished.
If its V8 Id be suprised
All the above is assuming that its a petrol engine

fuels been in it for at least 4 months that I know of.

Let it warm up run it for a while prehistoric Rover 2.25 litre engines tend to have issues with pump timing when things are really worn just remember that white smoke is incomplete combustion possibly injectors
Give it a good run suspect injectors and timing first
just a thought could it be water in the tank?

I would price getting the injectors serviced/cleaned at a diesel mechanic and run the thicker diesel oil,Penrite HPR diesel,the HPR50 may be too thick for a diesel in winter and wont have the detergents needed in a diesel motor.The injectors make for a lot of smoke on startup if they are dribbling and the motor is a bit worn.The injectors will be alot cheaper than a rebuild.
I would also get some of that CEM oil flush,its really good at cleaning out dirty diesel motors,I use it on our Trytoo every oilchange.Do a google on Cost Effective Maintence for more info.Others here have used it with good results
