    Td5 timing chain advice

Howdy folks, my poor disco started making a not nice noise a day ago so I pulled rocker cover off this morning. Found the problem pretty fast, part of timing chain guide/tensioner not where it's supposed to be Td5 timing chain advice
So I'm researching process of how to do this. And all parts I need. I'm assuming timing chain itself needs replacing with the guides etc in there.
I have no idea on how to tackle this, so seeking all advice and knowledge I possibly can to help get my car back on road as soon as possible. When it's down, I lose my independence as it's only car I can drive as a wheelchair user who needs hand controls.

    I'll have a look Thankyou
Yeah, old girl got me and my powerchair home safe as it always does. Started hearing a bit of a weird noise as got home. Well on its way to half a million kms so not surprised this has happened really.

Thought this might be interesting. Have a disco 2 wreck here that belonged to late friend of mine. It was a manual td5 and hadn't even hit 200000kms. Its a horrible story of how it got wrecked so I'm not going to go into that as it's very upsetting.
But it's motor came out ages ago. Just went to learn about timing chain and guides on it.
They are ruined from weather, but can see how smooth it is compared to the one from my 400000km + td5. Chain grooves really worn into it!

Pity it wasn't undercover as you could have used those.

Timing chain kits aren't terribly expensive, depending on who you talk to. I'd recommend changing the harmonic balancer while you are at it, unless it's been done recently. They are prone to failure as well, especially at those kms. You can get much better ones these days.

Also, it's not a head or sump off job if you are careful not to break the gaskets.

Normal TD5 behaviour. Prolly ok then, but worth considering.

I personally wouldn't put an aftermarket chain in, I've heard bad reports of very short life.

But a new genuine guide kit with tensioner (if kits exist) would be the go.
