    Wind back the boost?

    Hi All,
So I installed my boost gauge today (see below) and it's confirmed what I had already suspected; my boost is maxing at 15psi, so it's been turned up probably along with the pump as well. I've noticed it blows a lot of smoke under load so this is probably the major cause. Also explains my average fuel consumption as I can only get about 650ks to a tank.
The car is going to have an exhaust put on it probably next week but I want all you lovely peoples opinions on wether i should have it re-tuned and get the boost/pump winded down. The car has almost done 225,000 clicks and I'm worried I'm going to damage something. The motor has been quite noisy since the last oil change as well.

So, people what should I do, should I leave and have some fun or back it off?

p.s: can you notice what else I've changed?

Now I might be wrong, but 15/16 psi is what a TDi is supposed to be. The smoke under load is a result of other things. Use a good quality injector cleaner, make sure all the turbo connections are tight, change the air filter and clean out the intercooler- you should see yourself getting back to 700 a tank and reduced smoke. You can tell if your injector settings have been adjusted when the anti tamper cover has been removed from the diaphram housing. Although TDi's don't soot up like jap diesels, I tried some cleaning products from CEM (Cost Effective Maintainance), and so far it is working well - oil is staying normal brown, smoke is down and I get 720 a tank. (Consistant over the last few fills)

Thats a big boost gauge, did you roll a boom boom boy in a lowered car? The only difference I can see from the photo is that lookalike carbon fibre on the dashboard.

    Am I right?

    Do I get a prize?

langy; I thought the standard boost on a 200Tdi was about 11psi??

Dobbo; no prize for you I'm afraid! (i don't where u got the carbon fibre from either!?!)

Click on the thumbnail you posted and enlarge it the black strip under the gauge looks like carbon fibre (could be pixelation of the colour)

ah yep it's just a pixelation of the standard rubber strip/dash cover... good try though!

I must admit I have a 300Tdi - I'm not going to argue with an owner of a 200Tdi - but since it is a near identical head, similar injectors and same block, you can understand why I thought it was standard. Is the tamperproof cap still there?
    Now for the guessing game:
Does it happen to be the fancy yellow oil cap and black engine soundproof cover from a 300 Tdi?

I don't know about the 200TDI but I was led to beleive my boost gets up to something like 21. 17 or something is standard with the TD5.

The 200TDi runs at 0.7bar where as the 300TDi runs at 1.0bar (sorry, I don't know what that converts to in PSI). You'll be fine running a 200TDi at 1.0bar but I'd suggest that you change the spring in the top of the pump for a 300TDi one otherwise you will be over fueling until you reach max boost.

As for the smoking... You can adjust that by tweaking the top of the pump.

    1 Bar = 14.503 psi. 0.7 bar = 10.152 psi.
