Glad you got your leaks fixed Scott.
Driving is much more civilized without a puddle under the pedals!![]()
After I spoke with Scouse at Ace's bbq a few weeks ago, he put me onto a body shop repairer called Caldwells that specialises in fixing up leaks in landy's....
Well, I picked my little truck up on Monday afternoon and the big storm here in Sydney on Tuesday gave me a good chance to check if the fixes worked.
Mate, I've have never spent money more wisely..... 150 bucks all up![]()

I had 3 main leaks...
1. on my drivers foot
2. on my drivers knee... it would drip from the top of the door, about 4 inches back from the top-front of the door
3. water would stream down the door frame onto the floor around drivers feet
He said he fixed up 1 and 2.
1. He replaced the rubber seals in the front air-vents (...Scouse said you can get army-grade seals for these... I asked the guy at Caldwells but he didn't seem to know anything about it)
2. He removed the skinny top window (drivers side), cleaned it up and sealed it properly.
Anyway, I saw no leaks at alll last Tuesday.... fingers crossed he's got them all, maybe even #3.
Guy I spoke to is Frank.... details are below

Frank's a bit of a landy nut, he offerred upfront just to show me what to do so I could fix it on my own.... so he's a really good guy!!!!
If you've got water leak problems (... yeah yeah yeah I know alot of you don't worry about a little water leaking... ) and you're in Sydney ---- go see or at least talk to Frank... he told me what leaks I had over the phone!!!

Did you realise LR actually produce a manual dedicated to fixing water leaks on the Defender???

Yeah I can imagine.... well I guess they've only had over 50 years to perfect the manualOriginally Posted by camel_landy

Bluetongue,do you know how he fixed no.2?? Just a bit of sealant under the seal, where the roof meets the windscreen?Ive managed to eliminate the others(even though for the whole time it was getting serviced by land rover scince new, they never managed to fix em).Ive got the army seals, mine came with them('01 model).I cared not about the puddle on the floor, but the dripping(constant flow in a downpour at 110kmh) on my accellerator foot WAS highly annoying, just lucky I never wear shoes![]()

Not where the roof meets the windscreen, he removed and sealed the skinny window in the roof (drivers side... check the photo below).
I also thought that was the problem originally.... ie where the roof meets the windscreen.... it can obviously leak there as well, but for now we didn't touch it. he checked and it seems to be ok.
So what he said was.... when it rains water get's into the roof because those seals are no good... there's apparantly a channel on each side of the roof running front-to-rear.... water sits in this channel and when you hit the brakes it rushes forward and drips down on top of your right knee.
As far as I know, he just pulled out the window... it seems easy enough from what he explained, you can more-or-less just pop it out... he cleaned it all up.... then put a crap-load of sealant between rubber-window and rubber-roof.... he trimmed off the excess sealant.... he said when it gets hot (ie in summer) it'll probably ooze out a little bit so just trim it back with a stanley knife... I don't know what type of sealant he used.
Hope that helps.
