    Thanks for your comments guys.

    Dobbo - they are $110 a pair +GST + freight to Adelaide, so $136.

Harry - yes, I thought of this too. I will check the hole diameter with my shackles before I fit them and re-drill if necessary.

Bytemark - I have an ARB bar as well . Are you saying that the recovery points do fit over (or under) the steering protector bar if it is left bolted to the outside of the rails and the recovery points are bolted to the inside? If this works then the problem is solved.

    STANDARD STEERING PROTECTOR?????
Anybody got a pic of the standard D2 protector???
Ive seen the Disco1 items, mine has nothing like it.
Are they fitted with ACE??? as mine looks quite different than a D1 under there.

The D2 protection bar mounts on the outside of the chassis rails, the pathetic thing is a pressed steel tube of 60mm diameter and a 1.6mm wall.

I use 6mm seamless tube nom OD of 45.5mm welded to a 80x10 mm plate which mounts to the original bar mount. a recovery hook may be mounted to this plate.

A bash plate is all most impossible unless you have a bull bar to mount to and this well render the SRS crush cans ineffective.

    Hi DiscoUte.
    Crushcans on a D2????
None on my alloy bullbar,it has a sticker saying its compatible with the aibag system.
I thought the D2 airbag system is run by a decaleratometer mounted on the transmission tunnel.
Not trying to be clever, just making sure I have my head around the system "as I understand it"

No mate the D2 system uses alloy crush cans as standard but if you have an approved alloy bar the original cans will not be there anymore. oh the sensor may well be mounted to the trans tunel. holdens have them in the console.

The powers to be advise me that crush cans and weight of the bar are very critical. hence the non use of original cans, I tried that for a bar for D2 the crush cans cost $11 dollars but was advised they would not do the job.

However if your system is chassis mounted then you may fit what you like.

The D2 ARB bar has ARB manufactured crush cans. They would probably only give about 5mm in compression though.

I have the steering protection bar back in it's original position. the recovery points are now on the inside of the chassis rail. the sit pretty snug against the steer protector - but work fine.

I think I have a pic somewhere.... I'll see if I can find it for you...

    Hi Disco123

To confirm for you, I have recently fitted the same points to my D2 '04 with an ARB winch bar. I agree the instructions indicated that they should be fitted to the outside of the chassis rails. I personally was only able to get them to fit on the inside of the rails if I wanted to leave the steering protector in place, which I do until the $ become available to buy a proper steering protector. It is all a very tight fit, but works well. I have had to slightly reshape the protector to get the bolts Michael supplied to fit, which by the way where much better than the ones fitted with the bar originally, which where a mix of sizes and lengths. Not what I expected !

Let me know if you need a photo or two, or even to have a look at one done, as it appears you are also in Adelaide.
