Tonight I stopped the fender, yapped to a bloke for about 2-3 minutes then turned the key to start. Click and that's it. I left the keys in the ignition, parking lights on. The time frame was only 3 mins max. Now she will not start at all. What is the problem??

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.
The battery is only four monts old, terminals are tight. I have had tihis happpen before. If I leave it sit for about 3 hours it will start again. Could it be the anti theft device???
Yes, one of a number of possibilities. If it is the battery connections the lights will go out or at least dim when you attempt to start it (if this happens check ALL connections - I have heard of one on a Defender that turned out to be the soldering of the starter lead into the tag on the starter end of the lead, and the same could apply to the earth lead). It could be the starter solenoid, although normally it would at least click. It could also be a fuse, if the starter circuit is fused (I don't know). If it is like my 110 the starter circuit has a relay that could have gone on strike, and it could also be the ignition switch.Originally Posted by gruntfuttock

I'm off to have a look at it now and see if it will respond. The funny part is that the last two times it has happened it has been when the keys are in the ignition and the vehicle is turned off.
I am not going to get out and lock the car if I only going to yap with someone.
Were you parked at near a service station? (Interference from the stations security system).
Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a while and reconnecting and resetting the system.

Mine did a similar thing, caused by the back of the ignition switch coming loose and then completely failing some weeks later. Take off the steering column shrouds and look at the switch.

Well, after a few hours stuffing around, soldering connections etc etc it still will not go. The solenoid kicks in but the starter will not turn![]()
