Thread: Td5 Fuel Pump

With all the talk about fuel pumps recently, mine decided to start screaming, gradually getting worse and more prolonged.

Took it in for a service yesterday, went to the stealer for a variety of reasons which I won't go into. Asked them to check the fuel filter and check for air in the line. "Oh no, was the response, that won't affect the pump!"

When I picked it up they reckoned my pump was on the way out, and a new one was.......wait for it......$2000 fitted.

But, they said, we have "fiddled" with the filter and bled some air out.

Guess what? It's back to normal now.

I told them I could fly to the UK and bring a pump back for less than $2k.

ALSO....had a loan car for the day and what did they give me?? A Ssanyong Musso dual cab ute! What a characterless boring POS that was.

$2000 is just not reasonable. Do they think LR owners are idiots. Still - if someone says "OK" at that price they will be making good money on the job.

Hmmm, maybe spoke too soon, pump was noisy for a while this morning, but not as bad as it has been. A slow air leak in the line somewhere perhaps?

Definitely spoke too soon, the noise is getting steadily worse to the point of being embarrassing (people look around at the lights wondering what that screaming sound is ).

Anyway, I will be getting it replaced and it should be covered by my extended warranty, and thanks to a very good price from Rovacraft (thanks Stu) shouldn't cost me too much. (Warranty only covers up to $1k).

Question is, can anyone see a problem with cutting an access hole in the floor? It's a lot of extra labour to take out the (long range) tank.

I figure that the hole can have some aly rivetted over it afterwards and then it will be an easy job when (not if) it goes again.
