Your mirror should be attached to a metal bracket that is bonded/glued to the glass.
Get hold of some Loctite Rear View Mirror adhesive, remove the metal bracket from the mirror & glue it back onto the glass. Maybe tape it to hold it's position while the glue sets.
Once it's set, refit the mirror.

Agree with what SCOUSE said, and will add

Make sure you clean the glass very well, using iso alcohol if possible.

a trick i did once was to scratch the glass with a bit of sandpaper where the mirror is to go......
this gave the glue something to bight into......i had also roughened up the little metal bracket the same way.....

yes...the wife drives a falcon.....and always did.......i had glue the BLQQDY thing on too many times......
putting a few scratches in it worked right up until she got rid of the car.......

Had heard that super glue was a no go. Ended up using a basic glue mix specifically for your rear view mirror from Supacheap - $7. Had a stupid moment though trying to get the metal plate off the mirror and nearly broke the damned thing........didn't realise it simply slid off the bracket as I was trying to pry it off with a screw driver All good in the end though, cleaned the surfaces and taped the plate on to let it set properly.

Cheers for all the help as it's always the small jobs that I have no idea about...........actually that's an outright lie, I know very little about most jobs.

Anyway, cheers again, this forum continues to impress me with the help available at the click of a mouse

    ...

    Aye, Mick
I have bought that $7 Permatex Extreme stuff from Supacheap. In the small print it says its not recommended for plastic buttons!
I now find that the mirror stalk on the D1 disco appears to be plastic and the 'button' is a black film of unknown material which appears to be manufactured into the windscreen and surrounds the whole original windscreen.
The mirror came off once before many years ago and was reglued with some unknown glue, now it appears the mirror stalk plastic has crumbled and let go, so now I have pared it down to something more solid, and am looking for a plastic friendly glue that will also stick to that black film stuff which appears to be indivisible from the glass.
    Anyone fixed this on a 1995 D1?
