Not currently running, halfway through a timing belt job, all parts for that included.

As I now have certain health complications I need to accept that I'm never going to do anything with it. If you, or anyone else, is interested then I'll talk.
After Tuesday I will be out of commission for a while, but I'll still be talking 🤞

No good re the health situation mate.

But it doesnt sound like what I'm after. I want something somewhat presentable, and white.

Aaah. I thought you were looking for options for something you already had. No, mine wouldn't suit.

Anyone had experience of a tacho on a 300tdi over registering by a constant %?
    Pulley diameter seems about right.
Anything else known to produce this?

    I'm no electronics guru!

    But.

The tachometer is reading the AC frequency from the alternator, so I can't see how that side could misread.

But, there are two alternator pulley sizes (and therefore two belt lengths) in a 300Tdi, I assume Defender v Disco.

Problem with it is that it has been fitted with 4.37 Ashcroft diffs ( air locker type).
So these would be good to leave in it.
It is a 5 sp manual tdi running 32's.
It revs at about 2900 at 100kph. This leads me to believe that it has 1.3 high range gear in the TC..unless the tacho is over registering for some reason (pretty sure it has correct alternator and pulley)

Is it viable to replace the high range gear in the transfer case?
Using the Ashcroft ratio calculator, a 1.1 or 1.0 high would bring it back to near standard highway revs.

    Opinions?
Easy to check the diff ratio.
Lift one set of wheels, F or R turn the wheels together, or lock the diff, the count how many times the tailshaft turns.

The 1.3 transfer is an Ashcroft special.

I don't know how hard it is to change.

Yes the diff ratio is established.. It is 4.37...done as you described.
He thinks the pulley on the alternator measures correctly, although it is hard to measure precisely in situ.
How would I/he check the TC high range gear ratio?
I suppose it could be done by turning the raised wheels while in 4th gear high range (4th is 1:1) and counting engine revolutions. The maths could be done now that the diff ratio is confirmed.
