Is there a trick to setting up the linkage for the lt230. It works ok, but keeps slipping out of high and low doesn't seem very positive. Do i just keep ajusting until i get it???

Also does the lt 230 normaly make a bit of noise, my viscous used to be silent???
Sorry I am not familiar with the linkage used on LT230's behind a ZF.

Compared to the linkage which was on my rangie with LT77, the later one on my R380 is a piece of cr&p. If it is not adjusted carefully there can be a lot of motion lost due to twisting flex at the pivots.

There are small plastic bushes in the pivot and if they are worn or missing, could cause the linkage not to shift the sliding dog fully.

Also make sure that the gear lever is not hitting the console etc. which may limit it's travel.

They can jump out if not shifted fully.

Another thing to check is a socket head set screw (also known as a grub screw), which adjusts the spring pressure on the detent ball (to hold the selector fork in position). This is located high (just above top of chassis rail) on the RH side of the main t/case housing, just in front of where the rear output housing bolts to the main housing. You can see it from underneath, if you look between the t/case and the chassis rail.

The scew is not tight in the threaded hole, does not tighten up to stop point - only to adjust the spring pressure, and relies on silicone sealant to lock the threads to stop it working out.

Check for play/twisting in the linkage mechanism, 1st, then gear lever hitting an obstruction, then the detent. Good luck.
