They were originally 5 on 6.5". Maybe that was metricised when LRs were to 5 on 165mm (only 0.004" different).Quote:

Thanks, that has cleared that up for me.
Does any one know why it was changed? Is it something to do with the way the hub was manufactured or it is so the centre of the wheel is smaller?

Anyway, the design brief in part was supposed to be better ride/handling. Part of that was changing the offset, & moving the steering knuckle deeper inside the wheel for better response or something.
The story goes that the design was different enough that the factory didn't want liability issues with people swapping wheels, & altered steering behaviuor. So the stud pattern was changed so you couldn't. The old & new chassis designs stand alone.
