I have... on a long run the servo in the middle of the run had shut for the weekend (owners on holiday) but my fuel gauge was healthier than my planned usage stats said it should be and I had to be at work on monday... So I drove as far as I dared, dumped in the jerries and drove to the next servo... pump made some very "out of fuel" noises on the climb on the last hill into Alpha. then more out of fuel noises followed by engine stall out on the round about about 600m from the 24 hour servo... fortunately momentum was with me... mostly...

Coasted to a stop.... about 2 feet to short of the dieso pumps hose reach..

But I still made it about 100Km further than I had any right to expect.

A friend of mine has a current diesel Pajero. His wife was driving it when it spluttered to a stop. The RACQ checked it out and said it sounds like it is out of fuel however the gauge was sitting on 1/8. So it was flat bedded to a dealer to fix under warranty. Turns out it was out of fuel and had a fault in the fuel gauge

Running out of gas is a nightmare.
I live about 25km from the nearest gas (and petrol) station.
Since I don't use petrol much, the sills tanks are always empty.

Got to plan when to fill up.
Bad planning - and I use the mower fuel.
And filling the sill tanks through the wheel arches with a jerry can is not easy (I now have one of those jerry can spouts with the flex pipe, and long bit of hose).
