Ok That didnt work, they are also in my Gallery under Baby Bar..
well thats got me snaffed, it doesnt look like any of the other bar setups Ive seen before....
any chance of a pic of how its ment to go in so I can see if its any good for what im after it for?
sorry to be a pain about this....
Steve,18month old's do not have the neck muscle strength to take the beating that our sort of 4wding delivers.. be very careful and make sure you have an inflateable horse collar around the little tikes neck...IMHO you are mad taking a young child 4wding if not on the scene obvious damage , internal damage will surface years down the track..worst case scenerio is a neck break from a severe jolt at 18months..your call but at least you have had the dangers pointed out:(
Can't say that I would agree with you assessment, but each to their own. In my opinion even our "agricultural" Defenders ride better than any coil sprung Jap 4WD let alone a leaf job.Quote:

Anyway just my opinion.
As for restraints this is how mine looked (now sold to Bluetongue)

Didn't intrude on space too much at all.

Ive seen pics of me when I wasnt even knee high to a grasshopper in the back of the old mans PMG rover just laying on a matress, no restraints and at least 2 feet from anything solid with plenty of fun stuff to play with, walkie talkies, tool boxes, wire spools... the usual junk a linie carries... and Mum reckons she took the pics cause dad was driving...
if you don't mind me asking, what is the purpose of such a bar?? we dont have them fitted in the u.k.
i have the O.E part no's from the parts book with pic if anyone needs them.
Hi Guys,
Dave the bar mounts the same as in Dave's rear but only mounts to the front factory bolt hole in the side panel(where the std county seats mount), also not as high. Basically remove the bolt/screw(make hole slighlty larger with drill) & fit support behind panel & then fit U shape bracket to this, obviously do both sides & the bar then bolts in between with the child bolts facing forward. Sits about 4" below the top of the rear seat.
I will try to get a photo but it wont be ASAP as i dont have a Defender, the wife wouldnt let me:(
Jasper, In certain states of Aus this is what is needed to mount a child baby seat anchor point..
in my 110 ute i used a piece of unistrut bolted behind the seats to the 2 upright body supports with a safety seat bolt through.
since i converted the ute to a s/w i'll use a cargo barrier with cutouts to locate the straps behind the seat and bolt the unistrut to the rear floor with the safety bolt still in place. i looked at heaps of different ways to secure a child seat and running the straps through a cargo barrier is the most secure.child seats work awesome if your hit from behind. great when you rear end someone but marginal when you are t-boned (from the side)
the sideways movement in most child safety seats is too great, unless the vehicles seatbelt is tightenned every time the seat is used. some cars don't suit some seats and vice versa. as an ambo attending traffic accidents i am continually amazed at the haphazard ways people strap their kids in.
