I prefer to keep it simple and original looking although I agree there would be ways to improve on the vents. However they do work well I think and to me they are consistent with Land Rover philosopy as opposed to the unneccessary complexity of the County aircon/vent system.
Perhaps I could have exercised better journalistic skills. My County has an engine air intake snorkel on th RH side. My idea for ventilation is to install an identical snorkel on the LH side to provide cabin footwell ventilation using cheap grey water plumbing fittings with an outlet into the LH footwell via a grey water butterly diverter valve aand a cross tube into the RH footwell with another butterfly diverter valve.Quote:

Sounds like should be too much work, to make matters easier, i no longer have the aircon system fitted into my County as it now has a 200Tdi engine and gearbox. I now have a series three heater, and yes it is pretty ordinary but does the job eventually. I guess now i will find the manual and start to acquire the necessary items required.
Do you think that you could get the job finished in a weekend? or would it require a week or so to complete?

Have noticed on some perenties a heavy-duty kick-out vent in the footwell area on both sides, bit like on those old (40 series??) landcruisers. Also seen these mounted on the roof on some series vehicles, they'd be available from caravan accessory retailers, I'm sure!. Easy to fit and don't look out of place on a County/Series vehicle.
Brian's post had got me thinking similarly, Gerry. I was thinking something could probably be rigged with those UK air intake scoops or even the TD5 side vent, but a flip-out vent might be fine. Except for the kicking bit, could even steal from a Tropical roof and use a genuine Landie part. Would lose the dust-reducing high intake though.

It could be done in a weekend if you had all the parts needed, but I'd allow more time, if getting a panel beater to weld up the spot weld holes.Quote:

I thought about all ways to improve, but alas, I sold the ol' girl and bought the exact same year crate (even pooh - brown again) without factory air, hence the vents were there. I was dying with laughter knowing the vents provide better air than the original aircon. And the Dash etc, was to that of defenders into the 90's.
Regarding Air Con, I could fit the Defender without a problem, and their was an aftermarket one getting around for the 4BD1 Rigs as well. However, stuff it. Aircon is really only for me, it does nothin good for the ol' girl. I had a Series IIa that I got around in for years with Vents. That did Me. I wack in a water drink pack. I also have a little water bottle with built in fan. It sucks the water up and fans it on to me when I need it.
Oh. My Pooh Brown is now white. That should help with cooling.

The kick out vents on the FJ40/45 brought in a lot of air - plus sand, dust, insects etc - the intake is right where the dust billows up from the front wheel, and by the look I would expect to be worse on the Landrover shape owing to the flat side, although the side vent on the TD5/Series 3 suggests there is an area there that isn't too bad. In any case would be good on the bitumen or in non-dusty areas.Quote:
