Thread: Cargo barrier perspexy thingo.

When I lived overseas many of the delivery vans had perspex on the cargo barriers, it certainly inproved the cooling in the cabin, so instead of trying to cool the whole van the back was - pretty much sealed off.

I guessed to reduce the risk of injury to passengers in the case of a smash they put the perspex on the load side rather than the cabin side.

The ones I saw were pretty crude, home made jobs, with the perspex cut to shape and a rubber sealing strip (similar to a door seal) round the outside edge to try and make it seal a little better.

Guess it would be pretty easy thing to make up, and if your barrier has an angle in it, you could actually hinge the top half to ease installation.

Just go with a perspex one the cargo barrier will protect you anyway. Yes it would work.

No, but I was planning on doing one with a soft, clear plastic, just to restrict the airflow. I just need to get the cargo barrier first. Can't see that hard would be any advantage if you already have a cargo barrier.

During the hot summer days when the car is parked I could see soft clear plastic - wilting and bending in the heat, a decent rigid perspex would not do this.

True enough, ladas, but was thinking along the lines of the material they use for outdoor eating places, maybe even the back windows of convertibles. So perhaps not quite so soft it would melt in the sun. Hopefully!

I have the soft, clear plastic screen attached to my cargo barrier. Improves the A/C significantly.

I bought it straight from Milford for about $50. Off the shelf jobbie already the right shape/size etc saved me time thinking about it or doing anything.

I'm going to fit it in the summer. I found clear flexible perspex / plastic of varying thicknesses at Bunnings, sold by the meter. I'll get some and attach it to my cargo barrier, perhaps by drilling small holes in the perspex and fitting some cable ties, easier than screwing it into the cargo barrier frame.
