Mmmmm, with your transmission in park and transfer in either high or low your single jacked front wheel won't turn anyhow, to check the centre diff jack said front wheel up and either put transfer in N or transmission in N, then rotate with centre diff unlocked. then locked, it should THEN turn freely unlocked and move marginally then stop when locked
Drop the oil and see what nasties lurk, this will usually tell you if your centre diff is RS

We worked the neutral park thing out pretty quickly.
The CDL locks and unlocks at random, I have the pneumatic system. Can the CDL be in such a position that the CDL warning light is off but the CDL is on ?
Will be pulling the transfer case apart soon, will keep all posted on findings.
I think the early vac operated are known for the light being on or off when still locked.Quote:

The CDL vac opperated mechanism appears to be OK with full movement.

Since I bought my Disco the Auto has always been quite clunky when putting it into Drive or reverse. I put it down to drive train slack as the car has done over 300,000 Ks.
However, I recently had the kickdown cable replaced and my mechanic told me that there was LOTS of metal in the gearbox and that he didn't know how long it would have left. It has also develop a tick (quite loud from outside the car) which is only present when I lift off the accelerator and coast up to a set of traffic lights. The moment I place my foot back on the accelerator the ticking goes away. Does this sound like a similar issue?
