Leaking Dust Seal Back Door Disco 1

Hi Guys
You can fix the problem easy peasy.On gravel roads dont have the windows open and run the aircon or just the fan if its cool.
This presurises the cabin and no dust comes in,I do poo loads of gravel driving in my own vehicles and the work trucks and will tell you its the ONLY option.
I have done the flywire cord upgrade on the Disco2,yep it helps no end,but if you keep the windows shut it definately prevents the negative air pressure in the cabin an open window creats.Try it and see.

So there's a flap/valve that works with the flow through ventilation?:(

What side is this on?:( The driver's side OR the cargo lamp side!:(

Is there a filter too?:( [Apart from front screen intake]

Its on the drivers side of my 1997 D1. You can get at it by removing the cover that you remove to change tail light bulbs. Mine had popped out of place and there was lots of dust in the area. Its got little rubber flaps that open when you turn the fan on or close a door - gravity closes them when there is no airflow.

I think the only filter is the screen filter. You can get a new one (STL783) for $18.

No reply to this question as yet. Works for me.

the tubing used in the seals is just some vacuum hose......preferably the soft stuff.....
otherwise it will make it hard (if not impossible) to shut the door.......
if you use anything too thick it will increase the gap further around the seal.......

you could also stick some self adhesive foam/sponge tape to the lip where the seal should seal.....
this is the equivalent of bringing the sealing surface closer to the seal......



as for the flaps......quite a few of the D1s have their vents gaffa taped at the dealers.....(on the inside...!!)
it was the easiest solution to dust coming in through the vents........

same for the range rovers..........

Thanks for all the info, I had a closer look today and found those vent flaps taped up, the main problem seems to be that the seal has shrunk and the two top corners are pulled down and away from the body lip that they clamp to, I have another seal that I will fit tomorrow, if it still leaks I will put som 10mm soft rubber hose inside the seal and probably some self adhesive sponge draught excluder tape as well, Thanks again for the advice, Regards Frank.
