Leaking Dust Seal Back Door Disco 1

I would appreciate any tips to cure this problem on my Disco, this seal doesn't seem to seal the whole way round, it is in reasonable condition, but I do have another one (secondhand). Are there any tips to get this rear seal to actually seal, my previous Disco had the same problem and some others I've been in also leak, Thanks in advance, Regards Frank.

I've just had a look at mine. What method are you using to confirm it's leaking?
On mine, across the top is marked heavily but I think this is only the dust that gathers along there vibrating down & therefore scuffs the seal.
All other 3 edges touch, albeit lightly, but do all around.

Check the door strike adjustment & if the door is twisted etc & just where.

The D1 is the model that LR said they had got by the nads & fixed the leak on that door.

Do you also run your fan on Fresh Air to slightly pressurise the interior?

I haven't checked mine properly (D2), but I suspect my dust leak on the top of the rear door is happening because the big seal over it is tubular and has crushed deformed permanently. I'll check it later, but I was thinking that stuffing the insides of the tube seal with something elso to puff it back out may be the answer. This trick apparently works with the door trimss also.

4bee, reason I know it's leaking is the 20 kilos of dust over everything in the back and when on the tarmac if you wind the windows down you get a gutful of exhaust (non-catalytic) fumes. Only time you get no dust or fumes is if you have the windows up and the air-con on full blast, door is adjusted properly, I think the weight of the spare wheel on the door causes the door to flex and make the seal useless, makes me wonder if those Disco owners with swing away wheel carriers have the problem, anyone, Regards Frank.

Slunnie, great minds think alike, I have been looking for some suitable (soft enough) tubing about 10mm in dia. to pull through the hollow section of the tube to give some body to the wimpy seal, I was hoping someone had done it with good results that might be able to tell their story, must be some other great minds out there, Regards Frank.

The usual stuff used is the tube used to hold flyscreen wire in screen doors...available at your local hardware store.

Thats really good for the door seals, but the rear door upper seal is larger in diameter - at least I think it is. Perhaps air tubing???

Yes as I think about it you could be right...I put up with the dust in the D1..that fine substance billowing forth that reminds me I may have been off the bitumen when I turn the ventilation to fan speed 3.

Definitely not the place for white cotton driving glove gear

Whilst you are examining the rear door, take a look at the air flap behind the trim panel, drivers side near the rear cargo area light. It can get clogged in the open position with dirt and dust. It can be taken apart and cleaned, and if it isn't the cause of the fumes and dust, at least you're one step closer to finding the real answer.

There was a modified "double bubble" door seal for the Disco1. It helped seal along the top edge which was usually a problem.

I'll see if I can dig up the info at work tomorrow.
