    Running Boards

    Afternoon all!

At the risk of opening myself up to ridicule, I am wondering whether the running boards that are on the Disco II I have recently bought are any use, or whether I should just lose them in the hope of getting better ramp-over angles?

Can't afford to put rock sliders or proper side steps on yet (interesting debate on the forum recently on that topic was lots of help too!), so the question is: is something better than nothing?

Do you need them to get in/out of the vehicle? If not, then you can probably take them off and sell them.

Yeah in my case I've got these running boards on my defender... they were on when I bought it. Haven't done anything too extreme and they haven't been a problem offroad but there sure are handy for the missus getting in and out of the vehicle.... but I can see them getting bent at some stage - it's just a matter of time

... in your case, for a disco, maybe get it lifted then rampover angle is no longer a problem and then you'd really need them to get in / out

They form into the mudflaps too,,
    so removal, while simple,
will leave funny shapes in the front and rear mudflaps,,

Mrs Pedro uses both sides(no dobbo, not at the same time) so maybe I'll have to bend one?

must have cost a squillion as an option

I got my side steps as the were bent by the previous user. I fitted mine to help the missus and ankle biters get in and out. I do have rock sliders under them so bending isn't much of a concern for me.
I would leave yours on untill you get something better or they are bent enough to be a problem.

They were on my Disco 1 when I bought it - quite good ones genuine LR accessory made of steel tube, but they kept getting caught up on every rut and rock - like having wings. Took them off and have had nowhere near the problems since. Your choice but I'd say get rid of them and put them back on all pristine when you sell it.

    Hi Greg
I re-enforced my factory ones and added sliders.
They dont make your ramp over angles any less, yes they are a tad wider but will help you stop rubbing your panels on the banks if you ever come over here and go off-roading in Harvey with RichardK.
I have a tutorial in the Tutorials section on how I did it.
