Those photos will give me nightmares!

Ok do all the new crank pulleys look like that with spot welded "flanges" stuck on the sides? Looks cheap but i know it isn't.

I thought there was a new? cast pulley or was that part of my dreams as well?

have heard of at least 2 cases where the flanges have worn or come loose/off.

Are the kits from Karcare OEM or are they second sourced?

    Thanks

300Tdi 108'000 original timing belt, fingers and toes crossed. I have the tools to replace but not the funds to purchase the kit.! AAAAGGGGHHH!!!

Dude, the original timing belt on my car went (under previous ownership) at 88 000. You are dicing with the devil. I recall saying to my mate the very morning it broke outside Lake Grace a long way away from where we'd come from and a long way from where we were headed. "**** she's running nice"...

The reason for my original question was I am familiar with the 300Tdi having had a 97 Disco which needed a kit in it by 20,000km and only just caught it. Then when it had had that belt in for about 3 months it blew a camshaft seal and put oil all overe the nice new belt!

When I was looking at the Defender my main interest was in whether it was in the really problematic VIN range, which it isn't and so there for it's only an age and mileage issue. So change the belt, change the seals and all should good for another 80,000km

Nice pic's of the wear by the way.

    Are they all the same?

The abbreviated kit ( no timing case cover) is a LR part. I doubt you could find these type of pulleys anywhere else ( give it a whirl- you never know ) .

ps: Don't get too worried - remember my pics are of gear that had 235000/ 10 years of use.
