Just cut down your original manifold, i have done 2 and the holley's arent as bad as some make out, if set up correctly they are a very simple and reliable carb especially if you are doing a dual fuel conversion. You can get baffles for the metering block that helps to prevent flooding on slopes.Quote:

I have a Holly on my 82 Rangie and find it to be faultless once the thing starts, which can be a problem at times. Have only owned the truck for 6mths and never driven a Rangie before so not a real good judge. I have driven it up and down some pretty steep stuff ( Brindabellas near Canberra) and it never looked like playing up! My two bobs worth anyway.
If all else fails, they're always EFI, better than any carby although a bit more complex.
Still, Holleys suck big time IMO. Just seen too many that ****, fart and carry on off-road and the extra power and efficency just isn't worth it. LR were onto a good thing when they fitted Strombergs to the Rangie :)

Ditto from me as I had a Holley once.
However the Weber 500 seems to be the better option if you go the single manifold, they also retail as Edelbrock.
maybe put a poll up on holleys im pretty sure that they will fall over and die like the crap they are:cool:
I have a holly 350 with a webber conversion metering block fitted very rare.
Rangie has done 520k all up
I use it of road it is great on petrol and LPG
Never had any problems with flooding at all
never had any problems except it warping the housing due to the IMPCO gas convertor that sits on top of it , as it is a bit too heavy......so I uprated to a Holly 500 problem gone
I am happy with it
But I do like the fuel injection on my other one, and as the flapper system is fairly simple and availible second hand I would be looking at that as a mod to do for the same outlay.

oh yeah the webber conversion about the only good thing you can do to a holley except throw it away
my old man has a holley with the webber conversion i tried my hardest to get it of him and he would not part with it
so if you cant buy the kit any more go the webber path you wont regret it and it will be right from the word go
and no need to alter them like a holley

seems there is more negative then postive on this subject.
So i have thought long and hard about this, including what other options i have eg: injected motor conversion, trying to find some carby guy thats knows his stuff.
And being that it is an 80 model and will soon be in need of some major work like suspention and gearbox upgrages or repairs, some small troubled spots of rust blah blah blah. The cost to do that and get it to where i want, i think it would be a lot eaiser and less cost effective in the long run to sell the old girl and upgrage.
Im thinking a defender turbo diesel.
What are your thoughts on this model landy???
