My guess would be that you have a short or a loose connection.

Wouldn't think that the starting/charging is related. Suggest you test, or have tested the alternator.

Welcome to Lucas Electrics. The blinker switch is also the high/low beam switch and is probably faulty - my Four Wheel Drives catalogue lists them for $77 but I think there is another edition out now, so the price may have gone up. It may be possible to clean the contacts on the switch, but overheating of the contacts may have melted plastic and in this case there is no alternative but replacement. You should be aware at this stage that you should NOT run higher than standard (55/60w) lights without putting in a relay, as you will certainly damage either this switch or the main headlight switch or both.

Not clear what you mean by takes a while for the engine to turn over.

The alternator light staying on may indicate an incipient alternator or wiring problem, but could also indicate a loose fan belt.

The three faults are probably not related except that Lucas is probably responsible for all of them.

As well as the switch problem, which is more specific, I would check all the major connections - the battery terminals, the earth lead onto the chassis or engine, and the earth lead between the chassis and engine. (these could be implicated in the starter and alternator problems) Also check the condition of the connection to the battery side of the starter solenoid - this is where most of the power leads come together and a loose or dirty connection here could be part of the problem.

Have you seen the ex mill wheels on ebay 5 for $50 - comes with the rest of the car as well - looks like a 1980 or something LWB - would be a cheap start on a project but my Wife would go nuts. - How did you sell it to yours? - "Honey I need it for parts"

Sam you light problem will probably be the one of the blue wires. Trying to remeber if it was the inner most or outer most blue one on mine. I found that all I had to do was tighten the connector. Didn't discover this untill I had the thing in peices one night at a mates with wire cutters soldering iron and a simple switch.
Told the mate I don't care just need to get home. Then just before we cut the wires I found it!
