There was a post a while ago debaing the type of tyre that is being used in afganistan, not sure if it was worked out but here are the facts.
The tyres are made by Good Year. They are called HI - MILER XTRA GRIP.
7.50-16 Nylon, 8 ply rating. Let me know if you need anymore info.

Hi-Miler Xtra Grip ! So they are conventionals(same as the old "Tripple Traction") thought that they were by the walls, stiffer and more stake/flint resistant too, Nylons
that would be interesting when they were cold
ask any older driver what it is like starting off on a cool morning or evening, particularly in a heavy vehicle or bus, every panel shakes until the tyres go round again
