    Need info on parking sensors

    Hi folks, after driving my wife’s D3 and more to the point, parking it, I’ve decided to install a set of front and rear parking sensors on the RR.

    They are now standard on all new RRs but not when I bought mine, so I asked my dealer about having the genuine ones fitted and before he even looked up the price, he told me I would be better off fitting non genuine devices. NOT WRONG. With labour, the cost would have been close to $2k, cheaper to back into something then to have them fit genuines.

    My question is ( if you haven’t already gathered ), has anybody fitted parking sensors and if so, what brand, how much and what sort of work is involved installing them.

    The ones Mercedes use aren't bad... can't remember what brand they use now, will ask my mate. As some of the cars have non-genuine - but are called genuine parts, if you know what I mean

    the ones with the audio warnings from super cheap and auto pro arent too bad, they just look and sound ugly.

    I bought a set from ebay - came from Hong Kong - they were the type that tou don't have to drill big holes in the bumper, they can be mounted on top or on the underside of the bumper just with small PK screws, much easier and neater - especially if you have to or want to remove them.

    I'll get some photo's taken and post them.

    The indocator/sounder inside the car give left or right indication and the distance in a digital output - and the beeps increase the closer you get.

    Certainly saves me a bit of grief.

    I paid less that $100 for mine from HK, took 4 days to get here - and two hours to fit.

    There are quite a few on ebay.

    I chose the ones I have as I didn't have to drill the bumper with BIG holes.

    Hmmm wonder whats wrong with mirrors and knowing where your vehicle is in relation to external objects, l suppose my father was too demanding when he taught me to drive and he should have just waited for electronics to remove the requirement for skill and judgement on the driver part to determine parking skills.

    Soon wont have to test the human behind the wheel as electronic aids for everything takes over we will only have license the ECU and sensors in cars as they making all the judgement calls for us

    I am with you on this, mind you, it has been proven that the average woman is less spatially aware than the average male. Hence they have more difficulties parking...
