    Help - unidentified noise!

Hi everyone - we have just bought a 2000 disco ES. It had a mechanic check prior to purchase and supposedly everything was in tip/top condition.

However it is now making an intermittent grinding/rasping sound - generally in low speed (kinda like a cat with a fur ball). It happens on and off acceleration but only in low speeds - once it gets to around 60-80k it disappears and drives beautifully. Could this have anything to do with the ACE system?

Not sure if we should be concerned!

Also, do you think it is worthwhile putting on an after market Solenoid switch or is the Traction Control sufficient?

    Thanks in advance!

Can't really pick up on the type of noise !

Is it still under the 3 month warranty - or did you buy it privately ?

Who did the inspection for you.

The ACE pump makes funny noises - but only when going over really rough roads or slopes.

Can you give a bit more detail as to when the noise appears, road surface, speeds etc., and if it just disapears as speed increases.

    Hi Honeybee
It possibly is the ACE ECU running a "self test" of the ACE.It came up on here once before, and was described as such.you can get the ECU changed/checked I belive but probably a waste of time unless under warranty, mine does similar.
Your second question,if you do off-roading definately, the CDL makes a huge difference.
