    Idle Problem Dico V8

It's only happened twice, recently, after a few hours hard off-roading, with no problems, as we were coming back into town I noticed every time I pulled up it wanted to stall and would do so if I didn't keep the revs up. Thought it might have been a clogged air filter, cleaned it out, drove ok for the next few days, only short, up to 1/2 hour drives, no Problems. Drove to Sydney and around Sydney for a week, over 500k's, no problems. Drove home 300klms and about 25 klms from home started wanting to die at idle again, not air filter, the only change I have made recently is a new coil, seems to me to be something in the air flow sensor or somewhere in the fuel/throttle system. Any insights or help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks, Regards Frank.

As a first point to look, I would be cleaning the throttle body and idle control motor. If you do a search there should be lots of references to this type of problem.

What Jon said, + make sure the IAC valve pintle is adjusted to the correct dimension before refitting it, or you could damage the valve internally.

Compress pintle spring with a small screwdriver while turning pintle.

Turn the pintle to give a dimension no greater than 28mm from the pintle tip from the gasket sealing face.

Return spring to original position with flat end of spring aligned with flat face under pintle head.

A few drops of machine oil after cleaning with throttle body cleaner should see it right.

Also clean the IACV seat inside the casting, as well as the area around the throttle butterfly & body.

With a bit of luck, you may have fixed it.

If EVERTHING else is working OK/normal, then carefully take out the Idle Control step motor at back of plenum and gently spray clean it .....

.....if not too dirty use Electrical Contact Cleaner .....if it's filthy then carefully use Carby/Throttle Body Cleaner [but beware of melting/dissolving plastic bits of it!].

Put in a GOOD Fuel Sytem/Induction System Cleaner into the fuel tank every couple of months/5000 klms.....Best commonly found one I've used is Nulon TFSC
