    Odd noise in v8

Has anyone here had a lot of experience with 3.5 litre v8's I have one that has done about 100k and I dont know if it has slipped a liner.
This engine performs perfectly it runs fine it uses no oil and no water but there is an intermittent single click noise sometimes when its idling.
Its not a tappet and its doesnt do it more than once (like a liner slipping up and down just a single click).
If you were to try to duplicate the noise if you removed the top of the carby (where the diaphram is) and dropped the needle arragement into its seat this is what it sounds like.
I did the timing chain/ cam and lifters 12 months ago I just cant figure this one out and aluminium carries sound very well.
I do have another good motor that I can put in the car but I am reluctant to do so as this one performs and runs so well.
I know its impossible to comment on this noise without hearing it but does anyone out there have experience with slipped liners.

A couple of points cold it makes NO noise, If I flog it in deep sand so it heats up it doesnt do it if I drive it flat out it doesnt do it.
Just when I drive it home normally and park it in the drive idling??

    Thanks in advance

I have not experienced a slipped liner, from what I've read they are not common in 3.5's at all, mostly 4.6's and that was down to incorrect ecu's running them lean.
When you say intermittant I presume it clicks constantly, but only under certain situations?.
If it is running so well, not using oil or water, things could be a lot worse
