No, not tyres again but springs.

Ok, i need to lift the disco and want some 2" raised springs that will keep the original ride. I dont have a bar (finding a 2nd hand bar for an airbag D1 is like looking for rocking horse crap) but hopefully will once i find one. Dont carry much more weight than the usual camping gear and hardly ever tow.
I would like some recent experience with brands and parts numbers if possible, King springs come to mind as i have been happy with them in my old rangie's and have been quoted $135 a set for KRFRO1 fronts and KRRR04 for rears so if you have these i would be happy to hear from you. Even though LRA is just up the road, i can save over a $100 by shopping else where.

    regards,
    Nick.

    Hi Nick,

I run KRRR04 in the rear and the old rears in the front, have a ARB winch bar (no winch yet) and 2 batteries up front, the old rears raised it by 40mm after the bar and batteries, in the rear I have a set of home made ply drawers, 40lt engle in all the time, drawers contain tools, recovery gear and some bits and pieces. When the Kings first went in the rear it went up by 60mm but then has settled back to 45 with all the gear in the back, for big loads or towing I also have polyairs in the rear.

The ride is still good without being too stiff and i still have plenty of flex for me even with the swaybars still connected.

and with the polyairs at 18 psi with about 100kgs towball load plus about and extra 50kgs in the back on top of the normal stuff in the back.

Hi Glen, that is pretty much what i wanted hear, did you have the old rears in the front before the bar went on ? I could just get the rears and see how the the front goes without a bar for the time being.

    thanks,
    Nick.

I put the bar on first then the springs then added the second battery, I wouldn't go heavier with fronts as I think the springs will still hold up ok when the winch goes on, without the bar I would expect prob another 10 maybe 15mm higher.

I'll have a dig around and see if I can find my rim to guard measurements an PM them to you. I think I have them before and after

The standard Series I Disco rear springs are the same as the std. 130 fronts and also the heavy duty front spring listed for the 110 Defender. I have used them as replacements for the std. front progressive rate springs in a couple of 110's and they work well there.

By the way Glen, What size rubber are you running on the Disco?

Whilst I like the ride my king springs provided, one thing I did notice is that they do coil bind, I happen to be under the RR one day and noticed the witness marks where they kissed. My RR at the time only had a ARB bars both front and rear.

LRA springs are my preferd brand. Not cheap though .

Many combos and the lengths to what you aquire. I'm not a big Kings fan, I find them too stiff and don't flex well off-road for what I want. Lovells are a marginal improvment but I still found them too harsh and don't flex.

My combo works for me as listed below on my Rangie -

180 lb srings in the front, have an ARB winch bar with M8000 lb Warn winch fitted and they haven't sagged or dropped from the weight at all. The dual battery instilation which I have planed soon will be a test for them

The 220 lbs are maybe a little soft in the rear but it's a good comprimise as I don't tow and I travel light as well. Have a custom rear bar made (my DIY one) with a 110 liter LR tank on board.

    Trav
