Apparently they don't work that well at highway speed, or so I'm told. So Vlad, an air ram may still be better for you.

In the Big Desert in Vic. the precleaner picked up heaps of debris, but surprisingly on the Central Aus / Simpson trip it hardly picked up a thing, but the snorkel socks collected heaps. I suppose it depends on particle size, but the debris it picked up on the Big desert trip would have been enough to clog a filter, so I think they're worth it.

    Oops

I meant to say I have a 3.5" diameter snorkel, which I can't find a precleaner for. There are plenty for the 3".

I did wonder when you said 3" as the usual for a Defender is 3.5"

    Looking at p.49 of http://www.donaldsonfilters.com.au/u...0Catalogue.pdf
    I see there is no 3.5 listed. How about a 3.75? P/N H000821

I thought my measurements seemed a bit small

The 3.75 is the one with the large bowlwide. The smaller precleaner has enough trouble surviving some tracks without going any wider.

If you're driving in dust a lot...worth every cent! They are noisy but they work wonders. I managed to half fill one in a days driving, hate to think what that would have done to the airfilter...
