    I think it will be OK. I have 49:1 1st on 33s with a gutless 2.25D in a heavy 109. It is OK, but could be a bit lower. Only time it was a problem was when I had to reverse up a really steep hill with a full load on. It would stall in reverse low (higher than 1st in a IIA box), so I had to slip the clutch a bit.

    In a light SWB with an engine with good bottom end torque it should be fine - not ideal though...

    Yehh...I still do.

    You will find its driveable, but just slow to get the revs up.
    On the road its terribel but low range is normally fine. Mine just tends to die in the **** occasionally when climbing steep stuff, so ive mastered he snap gear change

    Slightly lower axle ratios would help heaps.
