So if you included a plug into the loom just out of the engine, then it would be very difficult for the capillary action to continue past this. Assuming decent spacing between the wires at the plug then perhaps this will also solve shorting problems through the oil, and if the oil is coming through then it will just drip out in a harmless location. This would probably be an easy way to do it assuming you could work a soldering iron and had a little sense in choosing a location for the plug.
Is it only 7 wires or did I just dream that number up?
