That even scares me Pedro...
Think of your front and rear propshafts as axles in the diff, both can turn at different speeds when cornering, and need too, now if u lock the cdl then both propshafts turn at the same speed. If you were on tarmac and turned a wheel you eventually will get transmission windup. so the transfer box has a centre diff lock to unlock the shafts so they can turn at individual speeds (normal driving) cdl unlocked.
Even though you are constant 4wd there still has to be some means of both propshafts turning at different speeds, this is your Centre diff in the transfercase, and when you are offroad you lock the cdl and then become like every other part time 4wd with front hubs locked in 4wd.
Hope I made sense

Thanks Guys,
It's quite clear to me now. I did get temporarly thrown for a loop with Ladas's reply but that's clear now.
I think I'll keep my eyes open for a Disco2 with CDL. Sounds like the way to go.
Cheers,
Yes sorry about that, one of those days.Quote:

Then there are others, like mine, that does not have the CDL at all, no activator - no guts of the thing.
I'll post some pages where you can check if it's got the guts fitted without the activator.
No worries Ladas.
Now I have it firm in my mind what to look for, I’ll check various sties etc for a suitable Disco 2 with relatively low kms. My present Disco is still proving very reliable so I’m in no big hurry. I’ve just replaced the starter motor and fuel pump and need to do the fan viscous coupling soon. When something comes up that looks like it fits the bill I’ll probable make a move. We don’t do any real hard core off-road stuff but every now and then we find ourselves off the beaten track in some pretty remote spots with no other vehicles within cooee, so I do need something that I can be confident can get me back to civilization.
Cheers,
